Our Love Story

Spring Break was coming up and I was about to head to Phoenix from New Mexico to apply for a job. My sisters husband, who got me the interview, told me that he knew a guy he thought I would hit it off with. I agreed to a blind date but the day before I was going to go, he called and told me that the guy flaked out. I really didn't care much so I went to the interview and got the job.

When I moved to Phoenix, I lived with my sister for a few months while I worked and looked for my own place. He lived on her side of town so one day after a fireside at church, I heard someone say his name. I turned and saw him and awkwardly said "oh you're Tommy? You're the guy that ditched out on me for that blind date?" He was really embarrassed but said yes and that he had to go.

After that, I thought I would try to pursue him. I started inviting him to things and would randomly run into him at work and at other places. We even went on a date that ended up a very awkward disaster. It turned out he was actually interested in a different girl who didn't return his affections. We decided to be friends.

Months went by and I started dating a different guy. Things got pretty rocky with him so I would stop by Tommy's desk on my way out of work and talk to him about my relationship. He would also talk to me about the girl he was interested in. We became a support for each other and soon talking at his desk became a daily occurrence.

Three days after my relationship with the other guy ended, Tommy asked me to lunch. Two days after that he came over to my house and told me he liked me. Two days after that we went on what we now call "our first official date." We dated not seriously for about two months when I took him home for Christmas because I didn't want to make the long drive alone. I'm from a small town so people assumed that we were very serious. That scared him and when we got back to Phoenix he broke up with me. All the time that we were together I thought it wouldn't matter if we broke up but when it happened I was devastated. It turned out that he was too. Three days later he came over and told me how much he missed me and loved me.

Three months later he proposed to me and two months after that we were married. I don't think I fully understood how lucky I was to have him then but now, four years later, I understand more then ever. He is the best and most wonderful husband and father I have ever met and I can't wait to spend forever with him.

Happy Anniversary Tommy, I love you more than anything!

Birthday Cake!

For Tommy's birthday, I made a cake from a recipe I found a while back on Make It and Love It.
It's called "almost too much chocolate cake."
It was fabulous! And really not that hard to make.
Most of all, Tommy loved it and that was enough for me!

Too funny not to post

Most of you have probably seen my twitter or facebook post about this but I thought I would share the whole story because it's just too funny.

Yesterday evening I was at a friends house taking head shots of him for some acting gigs he has coming up.
As I was taking pictures of him in a grassy area, I stepped on a step stool that suddenly sunk into the newly watered ground.
I slipped and fell right on top of the stool. It looks a bit like this:

It hurt. Really bad.
I took a break to make sure I was ok and then continued the shoot.
When we got home my chest was still in quite a bit of pain so Tommy suggested we ice it.
We didn't have ice so he gave me a bag of frozen peas.
I fell asleep with the bag and woke up in the middle of the night and told Tommy to go put it back in the freezer.
When we woke this morning, I asked him if he put the bag in the freezer and he said he couldn't remember.
We looked everywhere for it. All around the bed, in trash cans, under clothes - it was nowhere to be found.
We decided to continue getting ready for work and figured we would find it later.
As we were getting ready, Tommy opened the medicine cabinet to get his deodorant and there it was!

Apparently in the night, Tommy thought that the medicine cabinet was the freezer.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who does crazy things when I'm pregnant :)

reasons tommy will make a great dad

As this baby gets closer to arriving, I've been thinking about what kind of parent I will be.
I worry myself a little because I wonder if I can handle it.
I will have to constantly watch what I do and say and be more patient then I have ever had to be before.
As I worry about me, something I don't worry about is the kind of father Tommy will be.
I have compiled a list of all of the reasons (I can think of) Tommy will be a great daddy.

  • He's a great listener.
  • He rarely raises his voice.
  • He's kind.
  • He's a wonderful teacher.
  • He never gets tired of doing things for others.
  • He's patient.
  • He's a great uncle.
  • He's fun.
  • He's a great role model.
  • He's compassionate.
  • He will always be there for us.
  • He's a hard worker.
  • He's honest.
  • He loves this baby so much already.
  • He loves me.

What we've been up to!

Posting has been sparse the last couple of weeks.
Turns out we get really busy in the summer months!
I'll tell you a little bit of what we've been up to.

Two weeks ago we went on a "staycation" to a resort in Scottsdale.
(We've had conversations about the real definition of staycation and found that it actually means to have a vacation at home. I'm using it for our vacation in the general area).
Anyway!
The resort was amazing and I'm sure you would love to see all the pictures of our awesome weekend.
Too bad they got stuck on a weirdo memory card and we cannot retrieve them...
If my most talented husband can get them off, I promise I will blog all about it!

Last weekend we went to my parents house in New Mexico.
For some reason I didn't take very many pictures (very unlike me).
But we had a good time and I got to visit with a few of my very good friends from back home.
I also got to see my beautiful, wonderful, amazing sister who was also visiting my most loving parents!*

Today, Tommy has headed off to New York for a business trip.
I've gathered books to keep myself busy while he is gone.
Here's to hoping that works!

Also! I'm going to the doctor today for a check-up.
I should be able to hear the heartbeat again and from here we will schedule our ultra-sound to find out what we are having!
Can't wait!

*Post amended to suit my sister.

Tommy + Technology = Awesome

Have I told you how much I love the polaroid application on Tommy's phone? Well it's true, I love it. Today, on the way home from work traffic was slow because of the weather. I used that as an opportunity to have a little fun. I took pictures of me and Tommy and the rain because I love the rain even more than I love the polaroid application on Tommy's phone :)

Tommy's Headshots

I've been practicing my headshots for future shoots on Tommy. I still have to work on lighting but he is a good model and a good sport. Here is the contact sheet from our shoot.

the love of my life wrote me a poem

and this is what it said:

Sometimes

Sometimes I don't understand,
Sometimes we don't agree,

Sometimes we get in fights,
Sometimes you're mad at me.

Sometimes I say I'm sorry,
Sometimes you don't believe,

Sometimes I like to stay with you,
Sometimes you drool on my sleeve.

Sometimes I hold your hand,
Sometimes I hold two,

Sometimes I take too long,
Sometimes I wait for you.

Sometimes I try my best,
Sometimes I don't succeed,

Sometimes I look at you,
Sometimes that's all I need.

Sometimes I don't remember,
Sometimes I'm a butt-head

Sometimes I think of how things are,
Sometimes my face turns red.

Sometimes I talk a lot,
Sometimes I listen to you,

Sometimes I have too much to say,
Sometimes that is true.

You always listen to what I need,
You always care about me,

You'll be there for me always,
You'll stay with me please.

You're smile warms my heart,
You're face lights up my day,

I love you forever and always,
No matter what I say.

--

I love it with all my heart. I love him with all my heart. I love us.
Thank you baby, I love you.

Dear Wife

I love...

the way you always want me to look my best.

the way you take care of me when I'm not feeling good.

that you make yummy, delicious food.

your beautiful eyes.

your cute smile.

that you listen to my nerdy-talk even when it bores you.

that you have a testimony, and that you are not afraid to share it.

the way we can cuddle-up and you can make me forget about everything.

that you are forgiving.

that you are my only one and we will be together forever.

Love,

Tommy

Dear Husband

I love it when you put songs that you think I will like on my ipod so that I am always thinking about you throughout the day.

I love it when you take me to lunch at a special place even though it takes a bit longer than usual.

I love it when you forgive me for being grumpy because our lunch went too long and I have to stay later.

I love that you are so willing to help everyone.

I love it when you kiss me at stop lights.

I love it when you drop me off at the front door of work so I can take the elevator and not the stairs.

I love that you care about the things that are important to me.

I love it when we sing El Scorcho in the car as loud as possible together.

I love it when you come and visit me at my desk and accidentally kiss me in front of my boss.

I love that you are so nice to me.

I love that you keep me informed of all things technology.

I love it when you put me to bed and kiss me goodnight when I am too tired and you still want to stay up.

I love it when you make me breakfast in the morning, even if it's just a bagel.

I love that you listen to me talk about work even if you don't have a clue what I'm talking about.

I love it when you translate things that are in Spanish for me so that I can understand them.

I love that you make me laugh.

I love that you tell me I am beautiful every morning before I get out of the car.

I love you.

Love,

Alisha

Hubby Tag

I found this little hubby tag thing while i was blog browsing and I thought I should share it with you.

1. He's sitting in front of the tv. What's on the screen?
When we are watching TV together, he pretty much lets me watch whatever I want. When he is by himself, you can pretty much count on him playing video games.

2. You are out to eat. What dressing does he get on his salad?
Ranch or Italian or buffalo or blue cheese... he is a very well rounded dressing eater.

3. What's one food he doesn't like?
Tomatoes, he picks them out of everything

4. You go out to a bar. What does he drink first?
Probably water... I'm not sure, we've never been to a bar before.

5. Where did he go to high school?
Tolleson High School

6. If he were to collect anything, what would it be?
Pens. The boy loves his pens.

7. What shoe size does he wear?
10 1/2 or 11. I guess it depends on the shoe.

8. What is his favorite type of sandwich?
Reuben or Roast Beef.

9. What would he eat every day if he could?
I really don't know-- maybe a sandwich, which is kinda inconvenient cause I don't like them that much.

10. What would he never wear?
leather pants he says... but I did get him to wear my skinny jeans last year for Halloween so I think if I tried, I could probably get him to wear anything.

11. What is his favorite sports team?
Probably the Suns or the Diamond Backs cause they're local - he's not that into sports.

12. What is something you do that he wishes you didn't do so much?
tweeze his eyebrows. he hates it but I insist and pin him down.

13. How many states has he lived in?
One - just here in AZ - unless Paraguay counts as a state.

14. What is his heritage?
German I guess.

15. You bake him a cake for his birthday. What kind of cake would it be?
Probably anything chocolate.

16. Did he play sports in high school?
Hehe, he was the Mascot and a cheerleader...

17. What could he spend hours doing?
He could spend hours hanging out with me... but he would probably like to be playing video games.

Tommy's Birthday!

Tomorrow is Tommy's Birthday so today we had a small get together with Tommy's family. He got some pretty awesome presents. His parents gave him a gift card to Applebees, a box of Hot Tamales and a fantastic new weed whacker! Char and Jay gave him a fancy new pen with his name engraved. It's pretty awesome. I gave him a home made coupon book with 24 coupons for his 24th birthday. Of course he loves it, and I love him!!

Tommy's Haircut

Tommy's hair was getting really long and well we just didn't want to pay to get it cut. My sister Mechelle usually does it but she has a huge baby bump and shouldn't be on her feet for that long. Instead, she sat in a chair, gave me some scissors and gave me step by step instructions. It was really scary for me and for Tommy too! He was really brave and sat very still for me.

Here I am with the scary scissors.
